Meningococcal vaccination is a mandatory requirement by the Saudi government for every visa issued by them. It is to prevent Meningococcal disease, a disease which is severe and can even cause death. It is an infectious disease. Therefore the Saudi government has made it mandatory. Children under the age of 2 are exempted from Meningococcal vaccination. You must be vaccinated not less than 10 days before the arrival date. Vaccination has a validity of only two years. Therefore, the duration between your departure date, and vaccination date shall not exceed two years.
Apartment from the meningococcal Vaccine, it is recommended to have pneumococcal and influenza Vaccine.
The pneumococcal Vaccine is to protect against pneumococcal infections such as meningitis and blood infections which are caused by bacteria.
Influenza Vaccine is to protect against infection by influenza viruses. A new version of the influenza vaccine is developed twice a year, as the influenza virus is rapidly changing. It usually covers Infectious diseases like H1N1.
For Umrah visa purposes, Meningococcal vaccination is mandatory. A Meningococcal vaccination must take place 10 days before the arrival and not more than two years before the intended departure date. The vaccination must be Recorded and validated by an authorized body and signed by an authorized person. The authorized body can be a hospital or clinic approved by the ministry of health of that country. The authorized person shall be a physician.
Children below 2 years old do not require Vaccine. So babies and toddlers below the age of two do not need a vaccine.
Meningococcal Vaccine should not be given any child below the age of 2.
However, it is recommended for the children to be vaccinated with the pneumococcal Vaccine.
Meningococcal Vaccine is considered safe for pregnant ladies. According to mothertobaby.com, the Vaccine has a low risk of harmful effect during pregnancy. Please consult a doctor (physician) before taking the injection.
Pneumococcal Vaccine is also safe for breastfeeding mother. But the Vaccine not thoroughly studied on the pregnant woman yet.
Anyone who is allergic to any component must let the doctor (Physician)know before the injection. It is ok to get vaccinated when you have a mild illness such as cold or congestion. But if you are moderately or severely ill, you must consult the physician before the jab.
